Spring 2004 Update
by Kathryn Holt

Spring is all about new growth and new life, and not just in nature …

Since our last Update (Winter 2003, A Season of Stillness), many of your thoughts, ideas, and projects have been quietly percolating behind-the-scenes. Now, with the help of a more-active, upward-directed (rising) Yang energy supporting you, these same seeds of possibility are beginning to sprout.

Spring = ‘Yin-Yang’

One of my favorite things about Spring is that there’s an optimistic energy in the air. This particular season, perhaps more than any other, holds a certain promise. And this promise is reflected through the beauty of nature and it’s re-emergence in the world around us, and the inspiration that accompanies it.

You can ‘take in’ this ch’i as a way of energizing yourself. In addition to nature, you can also revitalize yourself through the energy of such things as music, laughter and love.
This time of year (this phase of the cycle), offers you the opportunity to re-emerge in life and grow through the process. It has been said that you invite things into your life either through love or fear (open vs. closed), which is another interesting Yin-Yang dynamic. I personally believe that people experience profound growth in life often as the result of having either gained or lost something of great significance. How you choose to handle these ‘life-shifts’ can propel you forward to new levels of personal understanding and self-development, which, in turn, can strengthen your sense-of-self and your overall well-being.

Support yourself through the season of growth:

- Mentally ~ Try to accept that challenges are an integral part of life, and make the commitment to get through each one the best way you can… gracefully, creatively, and without fear.

As an elemental reminder, the ch’i qualities of Fire are passion and emotion. In this case, ‘fear’ would be the specific emotion. Fire overtaking Wood likens to emotions overtaking growth and intuition.

- Emotionally ~ Give yourself the gift of girlfriends (‘soul sisters’). Make an effort to meet regularly to talk, share and laugh. This can be truly self-supporting for all those involved.

- Physically ~ Update your environment. ‘Tis the season to Spring clean and by cleaning I’m referring to everything from medicine cabinets & first-aid kits, to cell phone & speed dial numbers, even your CDs. Time to clear out the cobwebs & create a functional, finely tuned living space. Now is a great time to space clear.

As the universal energy gradually begins to peak towards Summer (‘Yang-Yang’), your ideas will have the opportunity to fully blossom. For this reason, it’s important to weed out now those things that you know aren’t going to serve your highest good in the future. (ie: Choose to detach from situations &/or people that continually deplete your energy.

- Spiritually ~ Be mindful that intuition is a pivotal part of personal growth, so learn to trust it. Before forging ahead, take time to meditate for guidance and direction. (Remember, movement without foundation can lack stability.) Incidentally, from another elemental perspective, spirituality and flow are the ch’i qualities of Water, which beneficially supports Wood and (personal) growth.

What’s New?

If you’ve ever wished that you could peek into the future as a way of selecting auspicious (lucky) days for special events, here’s a new service you might be interested in ...
Based off of the traditional discipline of Feng Shui (and your day, month, year, and time of birth), you can get a monthly almanac of your favorable & unfavorable days and Five-element profile.

This chart provides a basic summary of your most favorable days for success, prosperity, traveling, relaxation, family & health, romance, and getting things accomplished. Likewise, you’ll also receive a ‘heads up’ on your less favorable days, or the days in which you’re more likely to meet obstacles.

I use my Chinese almanac to help me plan the best times to travel, offer lectures, and schedule other important and special events. The cost for a yearly (12-month) forecast and profile is $40.

Another idea for helping you to get a glimpse into the future is through the time-honored system known as, ‘Nine Star Ki’ or Chinese Astrology. This is a fun and enlightening class that can be very useful in helping you to chart out your next few years, strategize your best plan of attack, as well as help you understand your dynamics with those around you, even better.
